When you are in an elevator with someone else, there is the possibility for the weird moment. You push your button and then you feel it--the awkward moment. Are they going to the same floor or they want you to push another button? Will they tell you this? Do they want to push the button themselves? Today, the male passenger and I stayed in this moment longer than we should. Finally he just pushed the button. I politely said, "sorry" not really because I was but because I felt the awkwardness. His reply is what got me.
He started telling me of being in the line at the store and the people in front of him, they didn't speak English. "I realize we are in a multiculture area and not everyone can speak English. I mean you look like you might could be from Ireland." I just had to laugh.
